Volume 19, No. 10, Oct 30,1989 United Way Dear UTSA Staff Member: I write to you as the Campaign Coordinator of the 1989-1990 UTSA United Way campaign to request your help in supporting the United Way. Between November 1st and November 2nd, a coworker will be approaching you to solicit your contribution to the campaign. Please consider giving generously. When you give to the United Way through UTSA you help your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and families because your contribution is used locally. The United Way supports over 80 agencies and 200 programs in San Antonio and Bexar County. Our contributions provide health care for young and old, create shelter for abused and abandoned children and battered women, relieve working parents through reliable day care programs, care for the handicapped and the terminally ill, and so much more. Any one of us may need the assistance of the United Way at any time. I give to the United Way because I know the United Way will use my contribution well. Over 95 cents of every dollar contributed goes directly to program services because the United Way relies on volunteers. If agencies have to do all fund-raising themselves, as much as 50 cents per dollar is spent on fund-raising. When I give to the United Way, I also know that my donation will be used appropriately. All agencies that receive United Way funds are reviewed yearly by community volunteers to make sure that they are meeting community needs and spending your money wisely. SRA President Judy Morgan, State Representative Jeff Wentworth and Student Coordinator, Jean-Pierre Cuello, were among the participants in the Red Ribbon Ceremony held on Oct. 25. Consider choosing how your contribution will be used. If you have a special concern or an agency, you can designate that your contribution be used in a particular way when you make your pledge. If you designate, all the money you contribute will be used as you direct. So you can give where you want, while showing that UTSA cares. To continue the challenge of making San Antonio a better, more humane place to live for all San Antonians, we need your help. Please join me in pledging a contribution to this year's campaign so that we can show San Antonio how much UTSA cares. Whatever you can afford to give will be appreciated. Thank you for your continued support of the United Way. Sincerely, flic *ji^&uj? Ann R. Eisenberg Associate Professor of Psychology UTSA United Way Campaign Coordinator
