The
San
Antonio
flood
of
September
1921
was
particularly
devastating
,
killing
more
than
50
people
and
causing
approximately
five
million
dollars
in
damage
.
Within
months
of the
flood
,
San
Antonio�s
Committee
of
Engineers
had
investigated
numerous
solutions
and
made
their
recommendations
to the
city�s
Flood
Prevention
Committee
.
Final
recommendations
included
: a
dam
in the
Olmos
Basin
;
removal
of the
�Great
Bend;�
and an
overall
straightening
,
deepening
, and
widening
of the
river
bed
.
