who
compared
buildings
to
diamonds
with
many
facets
,
Bartlett
Cocke
Sr
.
emphasized
the
importance
of the
“science”
of
buildings
as
well
as the
art
. In his
60
years
in
practice
in
San
Antonio
,
Cocke
was the
architect
of the
downtown
Joske’s
building
and was
involved
in
North
Star
and
Central
Park
malls
,
Jefferson
Square
and
Sunset
Ridge
shopping
centers
and
partnered
with
famed
architect
O’Neil
Ford
on the
campus
of
Trinity
University
. He also
recalls
growing
up
in
San
Antonio
in the
early
years
of the
20th
Century
,
including
the
schools
he
attended
. And he
recalls
selling
newspapers
at
Camp
John
Wise
in the
Olmos
Basin
where
World
War
I
balloon
pilot-observers
were
trained
. An
accomplished
golfer
who
became
the
state
amateur
senior
champion
in
1955
,
Cocke
also
tells
how he
made
money
“shagging”
golf
balls
on the
nine-hole
Laurel
Heights
Golf
Course
and
caddying
at the
Brackenridge
Golf
Course
when
it
first
opened
.
